Cataract Care

Aging is a natural process. As we age, our eyes lose their clarity. This can cause cloudy vision, difficulty seeing at night, and problems reading fine print. Did you know that cataracts are the most common form of vision loss in people over 40 and the principal cause of blindness in the world? It’s important to us that you get them checked.

During the evaluation, we will carefully examine your eyes for signs of cataract formation. If a cataract is noticed and the clouding is causing visual disruption, our optometrist Dr. Kim, will refer you to a trusted and respected surgeon for surgery, which is the only known cure for cataracts. Additionally, we will be there for you providing pre and postsurgical care.

Diabetic EyeCare

Diabetic retinopathy is when there is damage to the retina of the eye caused by diabetes. It ranks as one of the leading causes of blindness in the U.S. The good news is that many cases can be prevented with regular eye exams and proper treatment. Wink Family EyeCare’s technology will help you ensure you are carefully evaluated for any possible diabetic retinopathy risks.

Glaucoma Care

Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that damages your eye’s optic nerve. It usually happens when fluid builds up in the front part of your eye. That extra fluid increases the pressure in your eye, damaging the optic nerve.

Please keep in mind that early glaucoma usually has no symptoms, therefore, routine eye exams are critical in the prevention of the disease. If left untreated, glaucoma initially causes loss of peripheral vision and can eventually lead to blindness.

Macular Degeneration

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a problem with your retina. It happens when a part of the retina called the macula is damaged. With AMD you lose your central vision. You cannot see fine details, whether you are looking at something close or far. But your peripheral (side) vision will still be normal. For instance, imagine you are looking at a clock with hands. With AMD, you might see the clock’s numbers but not the hands.

Smoking, poor diet, a light complexion, excessive sun exposure, genetics, and most recently, evidence related to the visible blue light emitted from electronic devices such as smart phones, computers, tablets and energy efficient LED light bulbs are the most common risk factors associated with macular degeneration.

Many people don’t realize they have AMD until their vision is very blurry. This is why it is important to have regular visits to an ophthalmologist.

At Wink Family EyeCare, we evaluate you for Macular Degeneration and will recommend supplements or surgery depending on the severity of the disease.
